Company history

Our Founder, Henry Laycock, entered the travel business after completing his National Service in 1952. He spent the next 20 years in various fields of travel, including shipping and aviation, as well as general travel agency work. In 1972 Holiday Supplies Limited, trading as Laycock Travel Services (a retail travel agency), was formed with Henry's wife, Linda Laycock, entering the business at this stage. The business grew rapidly, operating from four separate branches at its peak.

During the 1980's and 1990's the company began its first group departures, the inaugural destination being South Africa, and due to the exceptional demand many more departure dates and destinations were introduced. In 1990 Journeys of Distinction became the main trading name.

Today, Journeys of Distinction employs over twenty full-time staff in its offices in Southport, and offer meticulously researched tours to some of the most fascinating countries in the world. Journeys of Distinction is now recognised as one of the UK's leading tour operators, and this was proven in 2006 when it was acquired by Kuoni Travel. We still retain our independent and personal approach, continuing our focus on offering quality, hand-crafted tours to the discerning traveller, yet we also benefit from Kuoni's financial security and expertise.
