Destination introduction

With a long coastline and hundreds of islands scattered among the blue waters of the Adriatic, an escorted tour of Croatia allows you to discover a relatively undiscovered delight, just a short journey away. With remarkable Roman ruins, picturesque small villages, excellent Mediterranean cuisine, amazingly clear blue seas, dramatic walled cities and relaxed café society, as well as being free of mass tourism development, Croatia is justly billed as ‘the Mediterranean as it once was.’

Croatia is now flourishing as an independent country in the new Europe and offers visitors a beautiful coastline on the azure Adriatic, dotted with islands and fishing villages and beautiful cities like Split and Dubrovnik, with pavement cafes and restaurants and a relaxed but lively feel. It is also a short hop to Montenegro, one of the World’s newest countries where stunning fjords lead into the sea.

Our Croatia Holiday Highlights
• Four nights in Dubrovnik, for plenty of time to discover this beautiful and dramatic walled city whilst staying in the heart of the old town at the Pucic Palace hotel.
• See the surprising Diocletian Palace in Split. Right on the waterfront, this must be the only Roman palace which is lived in today and has been incorporated into the city.
• Take the catamaran to the romantic island of Hvar and relax with some local white wine
• Journey down the coast to Ston and try oysters fresh from the bay.
• Take a trip into Montenegro, one of the world’s newest countries, and see the spectacular coastline and quaint villages.

Where is Croatia
Croatia lies on the Adriatic sea, bordered by Austria and Slovenia to the north and the Balkan neighbours of Bosnia and Montenegro. Just a two hour flight from the UK, it offers a part of the Mediterranean untouched by mass tourism yet with so much to offer.

Croatian cuisine
Along the Dalmatian coast and the many offshore islands, cuisine is very much Mediterranean in flavour, with excellent seafood at great value – try fresh oysters straight from the sea or succulent fish fillets. Another renowned dish is Dalmatian Lamb, fed on fresh herbs for a distinctive taste, and Italian food is on offer across the country. Good quality local red and white wine is great value, and Croatians enjoy meeting up over coffee in the numerous pavement cafés.
