Where is Borneo?
Borneo is the largest island in the Malay Archipelago.  Situated in the South China Sea, it lies south of peninsula Malaysia, and close to the Philippines.  The island of Borneo belongs mostly to Indonesian and also includes the small sovereign state of Brunei.  The Malaysian provinces of Sabah and Sarawak which the Journeys of Distinction tour explores makes up approximately 25% of the land mass.

Borneo Cuisine
Favourite staples are rice (nasi) and noodles (mee), don’t miss the Malaysian specialty of noodles in spicy soup (laksa).  You will find all kind of meat dishes, but boar and deer are Sarawak favourites.  Fish is especially popular.  It is often cooked whole, stuffed with spices, or wrapped in banana leaf.  Fish stew and shellfish are also frequently enjoyed, while a Sabah specialty is raw fish marinated in lime juice and herbs.  Most locals love their meat but the sizable population of Hindus and Buddhists means that their are a fair number of restaurants dedicated to vegetarian food – learn how to say “tanpa daging” (no meat).  Mid-range hotels and many restaurants offer International dishes familiar to western travellers.
